🇪🇸 Spain School Support

Finding a school in Spain
across all regions

Spain's school system varies enormously by region. From concertado schools in Madrid to bilingual programmes in Catalonia and international schools on the Costa del Sol — we help you find the right fit, wherever you're moving.

The Spain System

Spain's school system is more complex than families expect

Unlike countries with a single national admissions system, Spain's education is managed separately by each autonomous community. The rules, timelines, application portals, and official languages of instruction differ between Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, the Basque Country, and the coastal regions.

On top of that, Spain has a unique school category — the concertado — which is state-subsidised but privately run. These are often the best option for expat families wanting smaller classes and more English provision without paying international school fees.

State schools (Colegio Público)
Spain's free state school system is solid and well-resourced in major cities. Enrolment is managed through Regional/Autonomous Portals (Comunidades Autónomas) — Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia each run separate systems. Places are allocated via the Sistema de Puntos (Points-based proximity), not simple catchment zones.
Concertado schools
Concertados are state-subsidised private schools — technically charging low fees but government-funded. They often have smaller classes and stronger English provision than fully state schools, and are popular with local middle-class families.
Bilingual state programmes
Many Spanish state and concertado schools now run official bilingual programmes where core subjects are taught partly in English, French, or German. These vary hugely by quality and region. We know which ones are genuinely strong.
International schools
Spain has a wide network of British, IB, American, and French international schools, especially in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Costa del Sol. These typically cost €10,000–€25,000/year and offer full curriculum continuity.
