Nobel Algarve British International School is the dominant force in Algarve international education, operating since 1972 with 1,400+ students across two campuses. The Lagoa campus is the historic anchor — over 50 years of international education, deep roots in the local community, British National Curriculum through to IGCSE and A-Levels, with a boarding option at Armação de Pera for ages 12–18. The Almancil campus opened in 2020 as the most modern school building in the Algarve — purpose-built with a central green quad, sensory garden, science labs, multimedia centre, astroturf pitch and sports courts. Almancil was authorised as an IB World School in May 2025, with its first IB Diploma cohort starting September 2025 — making it the only IB school in the Algarve. Both campuses offer Duke of Edinburgh, the Viva HUB after-school programme, and "The Journey" outdoor learning programme. Nobel is part of the Globeducate network (65+ schools worldwide), with partnerships with WWF, Eco-Schools and LEGO Education. School bus service covers Faro, Loulé, Vilamoura, Silves, Albufeira and surrounding towns.
Nobel operates two campuses: Lagoa (founded 1972, the Algarve's oldest international school) and Almancil (purpose-built 2020, the most modern school building in the Algarve). The Almancil campus was authorised as an IB World School in May 2025 — its first IB Diploma cohort starts September 2025, making it the only IB school in the Algarve.
“We're at the Almancil campus and it's genuinely impressive — the building is beautiful, the teachers are engaged and our children have settled in brilliantly. The IB news is very exciting for us.”
British family, Quinta do Lago — Year 8 and Year 10
“Lagoa has been fine for us overall. The community is large and established. I'd say read the reviews carefully and visit in person — the experience seems to vary a lot depending on which year group and which teachers you get.”

What families tell us — the things the school's own website won't say
Reviews are notably mixed — some families are very positive about the school, while others describe concerns about leadership culture at the Lagoa primary, pastoral care gaps and school management. The school does not publish fees publicly — you must complete a form to access the fee schedule, which some families find frustrating. Nobel is for-profit (Globeducate, Madrid-based). Despite the mixed reviews, Nobel remains the most attended international school in the Algarve by a considerable margin — which reflects either its quality or the lack of alternatives, probably both. The IB at Almancil is brand new (September 2025) — there is no track record yet. For families in the Golden Triangle (Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Almancil), the Almancil campus is the nearest quality option. For families in western central Algarve (Lagoa, Silves, Albufeira), Lagoa is the natural first choice. We strongly recommend visiting both campuses and speaking to current parents before committing.
