About the school

CLIB โ€” Colรฉgio Luso-Internacional de Braga (The Braga International School) is the only international school in Braga and the sole English-medium option for the entire Braga metropolitan area. Founded in 1999, CLIB has over 25 years of history and is part of the Dukes Education group alongside CJD International School Porto. The school is co-educational, non-denominational and operates a closed campus with a strong security focus. The curriculum follows a modified English National Curriculum in the lower years (ages 3โ€“13), transitioning to Cambridge IGCSE and the Cambridge AICE Diploma (A-Levels) in upper secondary. A distinctive feature is the Learning through Research (LTR) programme for Forms 5โ€“8 โ€” an innovative autonomous learning methodology that develops independent research skills rather than relying on traditional teaching approaches. Class sizes average around 20 students. The campus includes science labs, sports fields, libraries, art studios and a technology centre. Braga is one of Portugal's fastest-growing cities and increasingly popular with expat families who find Porto too expensive โ€” CLIB is the only international school serving this growing community.

What families say

โ€œWe moved to Braga specifically because of the lower cost of living. CLIB was the obvious choice โ€” and it's been excellent. The LTR programme has made our daughter genuinely curious and independent as a learner.โ€

British family, moved from Bristol โ€” Form 6

โ€œThe closed campus and small class sizes were important to us. The teachers know every child by name. It feels like a proper community school, not a factory.โ€

Consider carefully
  • Fees not publicly listed โ€” requires direct contact for cost comparison

  • Braga is 45 minutes from Porto โ€” not suitable for families based in Porto
  • Less well-known internationally than Lisbon or Porto schools
  • No boarding option
Portugal Nest practical note

Fees are not publicly listed โ€” you need to contact the school directly, which makes early cost comparison harder than with schools that publish their fees. The monthly range (โ‚ฌ562โ€“โ‚ฌ845) translates to roughly โ‚ฌ5,600โ€“โ‚ฌ8,450/year โ€” broadly comparable to Deutsche Schule and Lycรฉe Franรงais pricing. Braga is 45 minutes from Porto โ€” families relocating specifically to Porto should not consider CLIB as a commutable option. For families moving to Braga specifically, however, CLIB is the only international school in the city. There is no alternative English-medium school โ€” so it is worth visiting carefully and speaking to current families before committing.
